Environment Keeps Happening To Me was a location based investigation at the South Bank centre. Through interaction with the environment and research completed on site, I became aware of the building’s functionality and it’s interaction with the world.
The strong colours of the staircases, designed by Peter Newman, became a focus for our project. Following their boldness, my group and I created an immersive piece of design, providing an experience for all the participants to share a greater understanding of the location and gain insights on the building.
The piece of choreographed design acted as an extension of the architecture, highlighting points of interest and detail, becoming one with the area and understanding its use and needs.
The framing of the brutalist architecture acted as an intervention within the location, moving with fluidity, one piece contracting and relaxing, portraying a narrative of the South Bank Centre.
